Program Note
Power Set derives the name from mathematical power set, a set of all the subsets, and also from the powerful accordion writing in the work. The work systematically goes through all the possible instrument combinations in varying moods and characters. Every instrument is assigned an own harmonic world, which produces varying combinations. The work starts with all the instruments, then followed only by solo accordion. After this, various other combinations are gradually explored. The work ends in the same way it began, albeit in palindromic form. The work also works with an early application of graph theory applied to harmony, example of which can be seen below.
