NOTES

“Bamboleamos no mundo“ is the third part of a 4-part Pessoa-song cycle, which will be performed completely in march 2016 in Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

It found its title in a poem of Álvaro de Campos (Fernando Pessoa):

Somos todos aquilo…

Bamboleamos, moscas, com asas presas,

No mundo, teia de aranha sobre o abismo.

One of the many ways of Pessoa to express a profound and complex truth with very clear -almost simple- words, and this one can find also in the poems of the songs of which consists this composition:

Poema de cançao sobre a esperança was composed like a plain simple folksong which seems to have always existed. This is the version for 2 singers. Originally the solo-version was composed as an encore.

Coroai-me de Rosas is also a quasi-archaic song with an almost folk-like voice part.

Não estou pensando em nada and Estou tonto are more monumental, elaborating on the theme of Nada ( = nothing) and Tonto ( = dizzy). About absence of thinking, immobility and emptiness (and what is hidden inside) – Nada -,  and about too much thinking, eternally moving and renewing obsession – Tonto -.
