Marko Nikodijevic étudie la composition à Belgrade avec Zoran Erić et Srdjan Hofman entre 1995 et 2003. Il suit en parallèle des cours et des conférences en mathématiques et en physique puis entreprend en 2003 une formation avancée en composition avec Marco Stroppa à l'Académie de musique et des Arts de la Scène de Stuttgart. Nikodijevic reçoit des bourses et suit des masterclasses de composition à Apeldoorn, Visby, Weimar, Amsterdam, Salzwedel et Baden-Baden.
Ses compositions ont remporté des prix et distinctions notamment de l’International Young Composers Meeting d’Apeldoorn, du Gaudeamus Music Week d’Amsterdam, de la 3ème Biennale de Brandebourg et de la Rostrum of Composers de l'UNESCO.
Il réside à Paris de 2012 à 2013 en tant que boursier de la Cité internationale des Arts. En 2013, Marko Nikodijevic reçoit l'un des trois prix de promotion de la composition de la Fondation de musique Ernst von Siemens et, en 2014, il reçoit le Deutscher Musikautorenpreis (Prix allemand des compositeurs) dans la catégorie Promotion of New Talent.
Postlude, music of ‘after’. An epilogue, about salvation and for salvation.
As with most of my music the piece evolves out of a simple, strict formal principle. A three-note chord generates the musical material by means of intervallic rotations. These revolving shapes unfold at the same time into harmonic fields, melodic structures and rhythmic surfaces, forming into thematic areas. The musical form itself expands as these thematic areas spin around their own imaginary axis. Thus arises a spiral-like, whirling construction of ever-increasing gravitational pull, with the remote outlines of a ‘sonata form’. In the inevitable eye of the vortex the pull of forces weakens and the music disappears into the beyond.
The score carries as epigraph a couplet from Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Ballad of Reading Gaol’: ‘How else but through a broken heart / May Lord Christ enter in?’
