fondation prince pierre de monaco
International prize of contemporary art
Established in 1965, PIAC has been organised by The Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco since 1983.
In its current structure, it is awarded every third year by the Artistic Advisory Board after consultation with international experts. The winner is awarded a sum of €40,000 including €20,000 to fund the production of new work(s).
In recent years, the Prize has been awarded to artists of international repute, each nominated by a leading art world professional. Past finalists have included: Carlos Garaicoa, Saâdane Afif, Candice Breitz, Didier Marcel, Su-Mei Tse, Guido van der Werve and Dora Garcia.
In addition to the PIAC, the Fondation grants an additional prize the newly established Prix pour un écrit sur l’art contemporain (Contemporary Art Writing and Critical Thinking Award) each year awarded to an exceptional writer/practitioner for undertaking innovative and genre-defining research work or to complete their current writing projects.
